  • South Abington Township mourned Officer Scott Seigler and former Chief 'Doc' Gerrity as Police Chief Paul Wolfe recalled their decades of dedicated service — services for Gerrity will be held early next week.  WNEP

  • Small business owners ended 2025 with improved optimism after the NFIB reported a 99.5 optimism index and an 18-month low in uncertainty. Local business operators in Scranton may experience cautious growth in 2026 as easing inflation and stable labor conditions support planning.  FOX 56
  • Rock N' Cards & Collectibles now opens in Kingston as a new hub for sports fans, card traders, and memorabilia collectors. The store’s longtime owners have partnered with the Wilkes-Barre & Scranton Penguins to offer an exclusive logo card at the game on Jan. 24.  FOX 56

  • A January thaw brought relief to PhotoLink Library photographers who captured vibrant color and movement as winter faded. Newswatch 16's Stacy Lange shared images (capturing the seasonal change) to show the warming weather.  WNEP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Amazon is applying for an NPDES permit to discharge cooling water from its Salem Township data center into the Susquehanna River (a warm water fishery); environmental experts caution that limited details raise concerns over long-term effects while the DEP has yet to set a timeline for review.  FOX 56
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced an $82 million investment for over 295 recreation and conservation projects statewide (including about $10 million for northeast and northcentral areas). The funding will help improve parks, trails and community spaces.  WVIA

  • Motorists in Lackawanna County should plan for lane restrictions on I-81 today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as crews inspect retaining walls between Exit 187 and Exit 185 — drivers are advised to expect delays and take caution.  FOX 56
