- ➤ Saint Joseph’s Center is hosting its annual Winter Children’s Clothing Drive on MLK Day (Monday, Jan. 20) from 9am to 3pm at 320 South Blakely Street in Dunmore, where new or gently used baby and children’s clothing is needed for families this winter. WNEP
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Scranton native Zachary Doerr recounted how his vessel flooded last November during a trip from Connecticut to the Bahamas, forcing the Coast Guard (using an aircraft carrier to refuel) to launch a long-range rescue that saved him and four others. FOX 56
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ John Maholick's snow removal company in Throop was busy this winter as frequent small snowfalls kept his fleet active in the Lackawanna Valley, but recent mild weather allowed maintenance on trucks and oil changes (helping him prepare for more snow). WNEP
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Electric City Trolley Museum now showcases preserved electric trolleys that powered the city's growth when the first line opened on November 30, 1886 — a tribute to Scranton's historic transit system that once connected communities and spurred industry. FOX 56

- ➤ Amazon Web Services hosted a workshop for educators at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke Wednesday, Jan. 15 to teach practical skills for data center tech jobs. College president John Yudichak said the event aims to help guide students and local workers into roles as companies invest in digital infrastructure. WVIA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Lackawanna and Ricketts Glen State Parks campgrounds will temporarily close from Sept. 8 for renovations to update aging shower and restroom buildings — day-use areas will remain available, including trails and picnic spots, until the campgrounds reopen in spring. FOX 56
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lackawanna County and city officials extended Code Blue alerts (due to dangerously cold conditions) into next week to protect residents. New alert periods run from 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 with warming services at local shelters, and update comes on Monday, Jan. 19. FOX 56

- ➤ Senior Guard Anna Scoblick led Catholic to a win over Susquehanna on Wednesday with 11 points + three steals and a block to lift the team into second place in the Landmark Conference. Catholic plays a homecoming game at the University of Scranton Saturday at 4:00 p.m. WNEP
