- ➤ Scranton community members gathered on Sunday along Railroad Avenue for a benefit hosted by the Scranton Dunmore Fraternal Order of Police to support Lori Decker, who is beginning chemotherapy for leukemia (proceeds will help pay her medical bills). WNEP
- ➤ At Hillside Park, volunteers cleared snow early this winter on December 17, allowing local families to enjoy safe skating on ice (6 inches thick). The natural rink also supports early hockey practice and ice fishing, offering a vibrant community hub for winter fun. WNEP
- ➤ On Feb. 2, Punxsutawney Phil will deliver his weather prediction and Mr. Toma will celebrate his 97th birthday as locals reflect on his storied career preparing Super Bowl fields — drivers are reminded to report potholes that continue to cause vehicle damage. Go Lackawanna
- ➤ Abington Heights High School held a free throw fundraiser in support of Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society, honoring those affected by cancer ahead of its Pink Game on Feb. 3. - ➤ America250PA is hosting events in Monroe and Lackawanna counties this Sunday to kick off Pennsylvania’s 250th anniversary celebrations and dozens gathered in Scranton’s courthouse square to mark the milestone. Additional festivities are planned statewide leading up to July 4. WNEP

- ➤ Residents experienced two days of snow and slick roads and are bracing for more bitter air as local hardware stores stock up on rock salt and winter sports enthusiasts at Elk Mountain Ski Resort look forward to additional snowfall. WNEP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PennDOT has lowered speed limits on major highways in eastern central Pennsylvania because of a continuing winter storm. Drivers on I-78, I-80, I-81, I-380, US 22 and Route 33 should slow down until weather conditions improve. FOX 56
