  • Harvey's Lake Grotto Pizza announced the winners of its 30th annual charity fundraiser known as the Parade of Trees last week. Over $52,000 was raised as Allow Wheels won for Peggy's Pathways, Sorber Well Drilling placed second, and Reilly Finishing Technologies took third for Valley with a Heart Benefits.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Penn State Scranton on Tuesday, the community honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by learning about his legacy of service and unity — two local residents earned Excellence in Diversity Awards.  WNEP

  • A major winter storm is set to hit our region today with freezing rain and ice, causing dangerous travel conditions that could lead to power outages and blocked roads (drivers are urged to fill up their tanks and check tires).  WVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • A significant snowstorm is approaching, and Dr. Brendan Carry from Geisinger Medical Center near Danville warns that shoveling may strain the heart if proper warmup and breaks are skipped. He recommends lighter methods like pushing snow or hiring help & staying safe.  WNEP

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Sports Voices at the WVIA Podcast Studio, Roger and Bob reviewed the girls basketball season so far, previewed next Tuesday's boys game between Wilkes-Barre Area and Pittston Area in the Wyoming Valley Conference, and discussed the rise of girls wrestling plus the Penguins leading the AHL's Atlantic Division.  WVIA
  • PNC Field (home of the RailRiders) is undergoing a nearly $2 million tech overhaul to upgrade video, audio, and production systems in partnership with local groups. The renovations will finish by opening day on April 7, with single game tickets on sale Feb. 9.  FOX 56
