COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday morning, about 400 people gathered at Station Park for Jessup Groundhog Day as the borough’s ferret, Giuseppe, predicted an early spring. Founding fathers and local vendors offered themed treats (including hot chocolate) to mark the inaugural celebration.  WVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Slingshots Bar and Grill in Moscow is hosting The Love Shack, a pop-up Valentine's-themed bar with festive cocktails and events like trivia and flower decorating. It runs through Feb. 21 and invites the community to celebrate the season.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flyers at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport face a $45 fee if they do not have a REAL ID or valid passport. A temporary pass — valid for 10 days — is available via a TSA kiosk after the federal law took effect on Feb. 1.  WNEP

HEALTH NEWS

  • California-based nonprofit Tenor Health finalized its purchase of Wilkes-Barre General, Regional Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital after more than a year of deliberation; local healthcare workers are confident that existing contracts will be honored and that funding will remain dedicated to each facility.  WNEP

  • Kiera Dougherty (25 points) led the Crestwood Comets to beat first-ranked Hazleton in a Super 16 girls’ basketball game, reversing last month’s loss and raising team confidence for playoff prospects.  WNEP
