ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A large fire heavily damaged the Orthopedic Institute at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City on Wednesday night, prompting a full evacuation with no injuries reported. FOX 56
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Governor Shapiro unveiled his proposed fiscal plan that would boost statewide education funding by more than 8%, including increased support for basic and special education. Scranton educators welcome ongoing adequacy funding — which has helped stabilize programs — even as concerns persist over flat funding for community colleges. FOX 56
- ➤ Local Scranton school districts are bracing for changes after the USDA unveiled new dietary guidelines in January. New rules that promote whole milk and protein will require funding for updated kitchens as schools wait to roll out menu changes after July 2025. WVIA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ This spring, volunteers will plant 250 native trees and shrubs along the Heritage Trail between the 7th Avenue and Broadway trailheads to mark America’s 250th anniversary. The project will reduce erosion and filter stormwater runoff while restoring the corridor’s natural habitat (supporting community recreation). FOX 56
