CULTURE NEWS

  • Northeast and Central Pa are celebrating 100 years of Black History with a month-long series of free films, trivia, and dance shows. In Scranton, events at Black Scranton Project Center began Feb. 5 and continue while other shows are scheduled in nearby towns (e.g., Bloomsburg, Orwigsburg) through Feb. 28.  WVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Bill 17 will require PA schools to teach cursive handwriting. It passed in both legislative houses — now set for presentation to Gov. Shapiro.  WNEP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data centers proposed across Northeast Pa have raised concerns over water resources — a recent WVIA News series highlights local worries about high water use. Residents in Lackawanna County hope for measures to protect the community's water supply.  WVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a massive fire destroyed its Orthopedic Institute Wednesday night, Lehigh Valley Hospital-Dickson City remains closed as Jefferson Health assesses the damage and plans a safe reopening — all 77 patients and staff were evacuated safely to nearby facilities.  WVIA
