- ➤ Scranton officials extended the Code Blue Frigid Weather Alert to keep emergency shelters open tonight through Sunday as near-record cold is expected to drop temperatures below 20 degrees; shelters including St. Anthony’s Haven, Weston Field House, and the Community Intervention Center are ready to assist vulnerable residents. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Electric City Toastmasters offers free public meetings at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for local residents looking to build speaking skills through prepared speeches and Table Topics. The group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. FOX 56

- ➤ The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission warned residents not to walk on icy rivers and streams (water flows beneath making the ice unstable) on Feb. 10. Officials advise staying off the ice to prevent accidents. WVIA
- ➤ Lehigh Valley Hospital-Dickson City’s ER may reopen Friday after a fire damaged its orthopedic wing while it awaits Department of Health certification for safety. Gov. Shapiro thanked local first responders and announced extra funding for fire companies to support emergency services. WVIA
