COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Scranton, Father Myronyuk of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church has raised over a million dollars and donated vital supplies to Ukraine since 2022. He will host a vigil and fundraiser tomorrow at 6 p.m. (honoring the 4th anniversary of the invasion) to support those affected by the conflict.  FOX 56
  • On Saturday at 5 p.m., a fire at 609 Prospect Avenue displaced 16 residents, forcing families to seek temporary housing as local neighbors organized donations for clothing and essentials. Authorities urge landlords and tenants to update fire safety equipment.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Moses Taylor Foundation partnered with the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit to launch a Travel School Nurse Pilot Program for Lackawanna County schools this school year to ease nurse shortages (details pending).  WVIA
  • The Valley Community Library hosted its third annual Squishmallow art session Monday that tied the program to America’s 250th anniversary as kids sketched historical figures in Squishmallow style (merging art and research). The event is part of the library’s winter reading challenge ending Saturday.  FOX 56

SPORTS NEWS

  • Teddy Richards, a Wilkes-Barre native (with roots in the local Penguins), served as equipment manager for Team USA when they won gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan last Sunday. His work in preparing equipment played a key role in the team's win.  WVIA
  • Hockey star Jack Hughes lost several teeth when he scored the overtime game-winning goal on Sunday to deliver Olympic gold for Team USA. Century Dental Associates in Lackawanna County has offered free dental work to restore his smile — a gesture that honors his toughness on the ice.  FOX 56
