  • Firefighters from Scranton and Wilkes-Barre competed in the Hook and Ladder Challenge Saturday at downtown 7 Under Golf and Social—wagering charity donations and bragging rights. The winner kept the trophy in Scranton, adding a local twist to the first responder rivalry.  WNEP

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands lined Main Street on Saturday, March 7 as Pittston hosted its annual St. Patrick's Day parade featuring floats, candy throws and live music (with Hadley Construction debuting its float). The event celebrated Irish heritage ahead of the official holiday.  FOX 56

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Pennsylvania rose to about $3.45 per gallon on Friday, with concerns over Iran’s moves pushing up fuel costs at local pumps. AAA warns that prices may continue to climb as demand increases.  FOX 56

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents can look up tonight for a chance to see the Northern Lights in areas with dark skies. If conditions cooperate, a subtle green or reddish glow could appear in rural spots (10 p.m. to 2 a.m. EST).  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Center for Rural Pennsylvania reported that 23 rural counties now lack labor-delivery units due to hospital service cuts, leaving many mothers to travel up to 42 miles for care. Experts warn that Medicaid changes and declining birth rates may further widen the gap in maternal health.  WVIA
