COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Scranton's Department of Public Works has painted green traffic lines along the St. Patrick's Parade route, keeping a 35-year tradition alive. The project gives downtown a festive look as the parade draws near.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Monday night, the Muddy River Mystics held a meet-and-greet and rehearsal at Voodoo Brewing Company in Scranton where newcomers learned the group’s witch dance routine. They will perform live on April 30 at Witch Dance United 2026 & join others in a celebration of tradition.  FOX 56

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fuel suppliers say diesel prices in Pennsylvania have jumped amid global oil market swings; D+C Fuel Sales owner Craig Keller noted prices rose from $4.10 to about $4.93 over the past month and he will adjust rates cautiously if costs do not drop tonight. Local customers may see changes soon.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Shapiro has proposed a $5M boost for student teacher stipends to ease financial strain from unpaid teaching as the program supporting over 4,000 applicants awaits Senate approval; the proposal aims to help address the ongoing teacher shortage in Pennsylvania.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT District 4 and local law enforcement today launched Operation Sober Shamrock — a safety campaign ahead of St. Patrick’s Day — to urge planning for sober rides; eight police departments in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties will increase patrols to deter impaired driving.  FOX 56
  • Drivers on I-81 south in Luzerne County faced delays Monday as PennDOT set lane restrictions for repair work (crews worked on the repairs).  FOX 56

SPORTS NEWS

  • Following a U.S. Women Hockey Team gold medal win, more than 60 girls aged 4 to 18 attended a free try-hockey clinic at Toyota SportsPlex on Saturday & local coaches said the event is a step toward forming a competitive girls team.  WVIA
