ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from local departments responded Friday evening at about 7:45pm to a structure fire at a business on Layton Road — Justus Blvd in Scott Township.  WNEP

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local craft breweries and packaging companies are paying more for aluminum because a 25% tariff on imported metal makes prices change fast—small businesses find it hard to plan costs. Fred Meyer from Susquehanna Brewing said small breweries buy cans on the spot market and an economics professor warns that these higher costs may lead to price hikes for customers.  FOX 56

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men accused of shooting Scranton Police Officer Kyle Gilmartin asked for a change of venue and separate trials in Lackawanna County Court Friday—Aiden Deininger faces charges including attempted first degree murder while Jeremiah Cleveland, who pleaded guilty to unrelated offenses, received a sentence for aggravated assault— as the hearing ended without a new trial date set.  FOX 56
  • Thomas Trotta of Dunmore was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison—he pleaded guilty as part of an art theft ring that stole items from Scranton's Everhart Museum and other sites and must pay $2,759,073 in restitution.  WNEP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an order last week to ease hiring for laid-off federal workers for 1,200 state jobs—over 700 workers have already applied—and state officials will hold more recruitment events online.  WVIA
