ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices statewide increased to about $3.74 per gallon on Tuesday, March 17, marking the 19th day of consecutive rises amid global oil concerns (including supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz). Experts say rates near Scranton may stay high if these issues persist.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Advocates rallied outside Sen. Dave McCormick’s Scranton office on St. Patrick’s Day to urge lawmakers to address rising energy bills that strain family budgets. The Show Up/Speak Out campaign by Action Together NEPA collected postcards from supporters for further outreach.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • After launching a 24/7 walk-in service last December, the Northeast Regional Crisis Stabilization Center in Honesdale opened an eight-bed residential program on March 15 to provide up to 10 days of mental health treatment for adults in rural counties — helping residents access care close to home.  WVIA
  • A new report released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report ranks Pennsylvania among the top ten states for outpatient surgery centers and highlights five high-performing centers in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area. The report emphasizes that safety and specialized care are key to improving patient outcomes.  FOX 56
