BUSINESS NEWS

  • Herschend is planning to buy Kennywood, Idlewild and Sandcastle as stated in a company press release—daily park operations will not change during the transition. Kennywood will open on Saturday, April 12—Idlewild on Saturday, May 17 and Sandcastle the following week.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Discovery Space has welcomed a baby stingray named Pearl from Electric City Aquarium in Scranton and she will reside at the center for about one and a half to two years before returning to a larger home at the aquarium — educator Christy Shields said the display is meant to spark local youth interest in marine science and internships.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 20th, U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan offered strong support for a proposed train service that will connect Scranton to New York City for the first time in 55 years. The FRA has authorized PennDOT to develop a plan expected to carry 470,000 passengers a year and add $84 million to the local economy — officials stress that the project remains under review.  WVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Harlem Wizards will face an all-star team of Scranton School District teachers next Friday, March 28 at the Scranton High School gymnasium from 7-9 p.m.—doors open at 6 p.m., and a portion of ticket sales will go to each school. Nearly 3,000 fans attended last year’s game, which raised about $20,000 for the Scranton High School Boys Basketball Booster Club.  WNEP
