COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Scranton Area Community Foundation hosted a free screening of the documentary ‘Join or Die’ on Monday as part of its Civic Health Documentary Series. The event included a community conversation on building civic engagement that highlighted the importance of local connection.  FOX 56
  • Today, The Avenue Restaurant and Catering in Avoca donated 41 gift cards to TSA workers at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport + launched a jar drive to collect food and extra gift cards for distribution Friday before Easter as workers face pay delays amid a partial federal shutdown.  FOX 56

BUSINESS NEWS

  • National Bakery reopened Monday after an oven fire forced a temporary closure over the weekend, and it now operates at full capacity in time for the Easter rush.  FOX 56

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Diesel prices surged near $6 a gallon today in parts of Pennsylvania, forcing some truckers to cut loads and shorten trips for local businesses that depend on timely deliveries (prices jumped 60-70% from last month's rates).  WNEP
  • Gas prices statewide are nearing $4 per gallon as of March 23—recording 24 days of steady increases since late February; analysts say global supply disruptions are pushing averages higher, affecting areas from Scranton to western counties.  FOX 56
  • PharmaCann will close its Olyphant facility on Life Science Drive by May 20, affecting 60 jobs in Lackawanna County *per a notice filed on Monday, Mar. 23*.  FOX 56

  • Archbald officials postponed a public hearing for a proposed data center campus on Monday after a notice error led to over 100 residents gathering to voice concerns — the hearing will be rescheduled once proper public notice is issued.  FOX 56
