COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, community members are donating food to support TSA workers facing a missed paycheck amid the ongoing government shutdown. The donation drive accepts items curbside and through airport security (support continues to grow).  FOX 56

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Corky's Garden Path in Clarks Summit was named Best Garden Center by Times Leader readers. The family-owned business started in 1948 and now covers 22 greenhouses, growing its own plants year-round to serve loyal locals.  The Abington Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Union Pacific’s iconic Big Boy locomotive is set to visit Steamtown National Historic Site sometime between May 26 and July 4 as part of a coast-to-coast tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Officials will announce the exact date soon (details pending).  FOX 56
  • Documentary producer David McCourt will join Carbondale Mayor Michele Bannon and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon for a community discussion on the American Dream in Scranton at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Medical Sciences Building at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31; tickets are free + available while supplies last.  WVIA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservation leader Ellen Ferretti of the North Branch Land Trust was honored with the Lifetime Conservation Leadership Award by WeConservePA, recognizing decades of work to protect Pennsylvania’s natural sites (including expanded state park lands). She led efforts at both local and state levels to secure vital green spaces.  FOX 56
  • Pennsylvania hunters harvested 505,600 deer in the 2025–26 season according to the Game Commission, marking a 6% increase from last year (with about 185,000 antlered and over 320,000 antlerless deer, including roughly 74,800 from NEPA). Officials expanded antlerless licenses to help manage deer numbers.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Way Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike held a free Medicare 101 session Wednesday evening to help Scranton residents learn about coverage options through PA MEDI. The unbiased guidance explained hospital, medical, and prescription plans to support informed Medicare decisions.  FOX 56
