- ➤ The Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of Scouting America partnered with the Lackawanna County Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon in Courthouse Square to raise two flags as part of a program celebrating America's 250th birthday, which started in February and runs until Flag Day, June 14. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Scranton High School hosted its annual Food Wars culinary competition, with students from Stem Academy, West Intermediate, South Intermediate and Northeast preparing two-course dishes for peer judges and professional chefs. Proceeds supported the district's Safe Play initiative that funds recess programs and safety improvements. FOX 56

- ➤ Heavy March rain activated early lawn care in Clarks Summit; local experts say mowing will begin in early April and warn homeowners to treat soggy ground to avoid weed problems (uneven growth may continue until regular maintenance in May and June). WNEP
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A House bill would allow the PIAA to run separate playoffs for boundary and non-boundary schools after a state championship loss in Old Forge highlighted fairness issues; lawmakers including Scranton’s Rep. Kyle Donahue are backing the change with a rally planned on June 9 at 1 p.m.+ WVIA
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Scranton will host an official World Cup Fan Zone at the Lackawanna County Courthouse Square from July 4 through July 19, offering free public watch parties and interactive fan events for the 2026 tournament (FOX56 will also broadcast every match). Organizers expect thousands to gather downtown for this community event. FOX 56
- ➤ Today, the RailRiders open their season with a 1:05 p.m. game in Buffalo (expected high of 30°) as manager Shelley Duncan praises a strong lineup with key infield and outfield players. Gerry McNamara will hold a press conference Monday while the Penguins clinched a playoff berth. WVIA
