ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ UGI Electric filed a request with state regulators to raise electric distribution rates, possibly increasing residential bills from about $200 to more than $226 if approved; the change, intended to fund system upgrades and technology improvements, is set to take effect on June 1. FOX 56
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, local donors filled the board room with food, gift cards, pet food, and household supplies to help TSA agents unpaid for six weeks (due to a federal shutdown) while officials start the search for a new airport leader. WVIA
- ➤ Crews will remove toll booths for an all-electronic toll system along a northbound stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension tomorrow from midnight to 5 a.m. Drivers must exit at Wyoming Valley and follow a detour via Route 315 (reconnecting with I‑81 near Clarks Summit). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local physicians hosted Louder Than Cancer (a free concert at the Theater at North) to boost colon cancer awareness and stress early screening. The event drew 250 attendees as part of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. FOX 56
- ➤ A water main break on Friday, Mar. 27 led Pennsylvania American Water to issue a boil water advisory for over 2,300 customers in Luzerne County (Hanover Township, Sugar Notch Borough, and Warrior Run Borough) with tests set to determine when the water is safe. FOX 56
