COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Valley Regional Fire and Rescue is hosting its annual spring flower sale in Drums until Saturday, offering $30 boxes of spring blooms including lilies, hyacinths, and tulips to support new equipment. The fundraiser is a cherished local tradition that sold 1,400 boxes last year.  FOX 56
  • Local farmer Gary O'Malia advises Scranton gardeners to trust the calendar instead of warm weather and Easter blooms, as early planting once led to crop loss from frost near Wilkes-Barre. He warns that even if weather seems kind today, frost may occur later.  WNEP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cadets at Lackawanna College’s Police Academy will join Scranton Police for ride-a-longs this fall to gain real-world training with advanced technology and equipment. Scranton Police Chief Thomas Carroll and Mayor Paige Cognetti announced the partnership during a meeting at the department.  WVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Syracuse University celebrated its new men's basketball coach Gerry McNamara—a 42-year-old Scranton native—with an emotional ceremony attended by over 3,000 fans. On Tuesday, the University of Scranton honored the Lady Royals for their historic season at the John Long center.  WVIA
  • Locked in for the Calder Cup playoffs, the Penguins are finishing the season with seven games remaining and five at home as they aim for a first-round bye. They won their last four, including a 5-1 victory on Sunday, and will face the Phantom's on Friday and Saturday.  WNEP
