ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices remain high across Pennsylvania as Scranton drivers pay about $4.12 per gallon today and state averages hold near $4.19, with analysts noting that immediate relief is unlikely due to slow changes in oil markets.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Providers in Lackawanna County will host Start Strong Together Days of Action on April 11 at Riverside Elementary in Taylor, April 18 at The Wright Center in Scranton, and April 25 at Carbondale Elementary to connect families with free childcare, preschool programs, health screenings and behavioral support for young children.  WVIA
  • Johnson College's Carpentry & Cabinetmaking Technology program hosted its annual auction Thursday evening at the college in Scranton to benefit the Children's Advocacy Center of NEPA — students showcased over 60 items including chessboards, tables, and benches.   • Joy World Wealth Partners hosted a Wellness Wednesday event on Wednesday in Scranton that featured a talk on managing anxiety by Dr. Osuntokun and a book signing for his work Write It Down. The session offered practical self-care tips to help community members stay calm and connected.  FOX 56

  • Mid Valley High School will host its first 'Live for Me' game in memory of Eddie Kaufman, a 2023 graduate who died last October after battling leukemia. His legacy is honored with a retired jersey, an award for one athlete—his parents launched a foundation to uplift the community.  WNEP
  • Fans filled PNC Field in Moosic for the RailRiders’ home opener Wednesday night as the team edged the Durham Bulls 7 to 6 in a festive game with special promotions for early arrivals — the team is set to play Durham again from Thursday through Sunday.  FOX 56
  • New Lackawanna College head football coach Mark Ross outlined the program’s transition to NCAA Division II in a published interview today. He noted that after two spirited practice sessions last week at Riverfront Sports, the team will soon start playing official games.  WVIA
