  • Tootsie, an 8-month-old FIV+ kitten in Jessup, is now ready for adoption after receiving full vet care. Northeast PA Pet Fund and Rescue will host Meet the Misfits at Blind Cat Beer Company in Pittston from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today.  WNEP
  • Amateur astronomers from Luzerne County will share space insights at a free star party hosted by the Wilkes-Barre Astronomy Club on May 16 at Francis E.-Walter Dam in White Haven. The event promises telescope tours and hands-on learning with local schools and nonprofits.  WVIA

  • Tom and Patti Dennis opened Green Grove Bee Supply in Dickson City to supply hive boxes, smoking kits and chemical treatments for local beekeepers. The store fills a regional gap created by a recent closure and welcomes customers Tues-Fri 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.  FOX 56
  • Archbald-based Popca LLC plans a two-building data center campus in Newton after its proposal was denied by the township’s zoning officer— the Newton Township Zoning Hearing Board will hear the appeal on April 27 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building in Clarks Summit.  WVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tsunami Self Defense and Roll Call will host a women-only self-defense seminar on Tuesday, Apr. 28 in Scranton to teach protection techniques and collect donations for the Women’s Resource Center of Lackawanna County.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House Speaker Mike Johnson visited William Rosado's Moosic home in Milford on Friday, April 10 to raise funds for Rep. Rob Bresnahan’s re-election bid. The event is part of a competitive race for the district seat.  WVIA
  • Drivers in Lackawanna County should expect overnight lane restrictions on I-81 for testing work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting April 12; northbound lanes are restricted until April 15 and southbound lanes face limits until April 21. PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time.  FOX 56

SPORTS NEWS

  • 14-year-old Nelson Villafane earned bronze in freestyle and silver in Greco at the U17 Pan American Championships in Panama City, qualifying him for the U17 World Championships in Azerbaijan from July 27 to Aug. 2. The six-time Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Champion trains with local teams and will compete internationally.  WNEP
  • Lackawanna College’s new head football coach Mark Ross (appointed in December after his predecessor retired due to illness) said his team’s roster looks even stronger than expected as training begins this week; he noted the Falcons will soon start playing real games on their home stadium.  FOX 56
