CRIME NEWS

  • The Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office said that over 400 compliance checks were conducted on registered sex offenders in Scranton on Wednesday (led by the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Unit) and investigators found 15 violations, made one drug arrest and plan to recheck about 40 cases.  FOX 56
  • An Old Forge couple, Angelo and Elizabeth Corradino, faces felony animal cruelty charges after police rescued 132 cats and two dogs from their unsanitary home at 200 Amity Ave—animal officials condemned the property and set a preliminary hearing for May 27 at 10:15 a.m.  FOX 56

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State officials have enforced a statewide lanternfly quarantine—local nurseries expect the pests will reappear within the next month. Nursery owners begin fall measures to remove egg masses and limit pesticide use—protecting pollinators and valued plants.  FOX 56
