COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Scranton’s 160th birthday celebration has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 26 at the Everhart Museum on Mulberry Street due to poor weather, and the free event will run from noon to 3 p.m. featuring live music, food vendors, children’s activities, and historical exhibits.  FOX 56
  • Mountain View Garden Club will host a plant exchange and marketplace on Sunday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Clifford Township Community Center and Park on Cemetery Street (local vendors will offer plants, handmade goods, and live music while a flea market supports school grants).  The Abington Journal
  • Meals on Wheels of NEPA reshuffled its leadership team by promoting Nicole Fetch and Kay Cullen and hiring Bella Ceccoli as director of development — the nonprofit will open its new building on Cherry Street by the end of April, boosting meal production by 25%.  The Abington Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Adam’s Hardware Store will open on May 15 in the former Rite Aid building on Main Avenue in Scranton. The family-run store, named in honor of Adam after his passing, will sell power tools, yard equipment and contractor supplies to serve local needs.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local student artists showcased their work at Everhart Museum Friday when Congressman Rob Bresnahan hosted an Art Competition Awards Ceremony. Seventeen high schools participated and first-place winner Arimeya Janov from Wilkes-Barre Area High School will have her drawing of apples displayed in the Capitol for a year.  FOX 56
  • A Tribute Night to The Eagles will take place at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) with tickets starting at $40.65 available at the Fidelity Bank Box Office.  The Abington Journal

  • The Wright Center for Community Health is hosting monthly Walk with a Doc events to boost wellness — one meets at 9 a.m. on May 9 in Scranton at the Olive Street entrance and another on May 16 in Jermyn at the Delaware Street Trailhead along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.  The Abington Journal
