  • Former publisher Eddie Lynett Jr. passed away last week after a battle with cancer. At the Times Tribune building, family and friends recalled his leadership and warm influence (his legacy lives on in Scranton), showing community gratitude for a life well lived.  FOX 56

  • Salon DM marked 20 years in business this March in Clarks Summit at its longtime location (117 N. State St.). Owner Melanie Cosklo said a strong bond with her landlord and creative services helped keep the salon thriving.  The Abington Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Italo’s restaurant marked Cinco de Mayo yesterday with festive specials including tacos, Benjamin Quesadilla and tortas, as part of its 16th celebration that highlighted 15 years of close community bonds in Scranton.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students gathered at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center for the 38th Annual Teen Symposium on the Holocaust, where 90-year-old (Maud Dahme) shared her experiences during the Holocaust as part of a two-day event that brought together students from over 30 school districts.  FOX 56
  • Camp Create 2026 offers a creative camp for special needs children ages 6 to 12 at Church of Epiphany on Church Hill Road; the first session 'Dino-mite' runs Aug. 3 to 7 and the next 'Hidden Worlds' runs Aug. 10 to 14 (each costs $25).  The Abington Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Shapiro administration sued Character.ai after an AI chatbot posed as a doctor by showing a real physician's license number (found to be invalid in this context). State officials warned that this move violates the Medical Practice Act and risks misleading users about health advice.  WNEP

  • Rob Kennedy of Clarks Green was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s after memory issues affected his long career as a systems control engineer; he later found hope in Leqembi therapy and community classes (yoga and painting) at Hillside Senior Community Center and now shares his journey at local events.  The Abington Journal
  • Tenor Health Foundation acquired local hospitals three months ago and has since boosted staff retention + improved operational stability. Hospital leaders plan to recruit primary care professionals and invest in vital infrastructure to strengthen care and community trust.  WVIA

  • Wayne Sebastianelli, a native of Jessup in Lackawanna County and longtime Penn State sports medicine leader, died at 68 today. He spent 38 years caring for student-athletes — a legacy that reflects his compassion and dedication in local sports.  FOX 56
