The Lackawanna Historical Society updated its downtown walking tour booklet—History Set in Stone—with new details on Scranton’s historical buildings and tour information now available in Spanish after Jenny Gonzalez-Monges spent a year on the translation.
The guide will be available at the society, libraries, and hotels, and small-group walking tours will start on June 7.
🎓 Education
University of Scranton students in a communications class are working with the Gino J.
Merli Veterans’ Center to document veterans’ life stories in print and digital forms. Led by professor Kim Pavlick, the project will record personal histories from veterans—including those who served in Korea, Vietnam, and World War II—for sharing with families.
🌲 Environment
Residents in Scranton's Keyser Valley remember flash flooding in 2023 as heavy rains continue and many worry that more flooding will occur.
Some locals have protected their homes — adding higher curbs and taking extra steps — as more rain is forecast for this week.
