COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Scranton will host the Armed Forces Day Parade on Saturday to honor local troops and celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. A 5k race starts at 9 a.m. and festivities will include military displays and a block party at Courthouse Square (with a sensory block on Wyoming Avenue).  WNEP
  • North Main Avenue is closed between Green Ridge and Clearview for sinkhole repairs linked to a previous water main break. Crews began work Thursday at 7 a.m. and will keep the road closed through Friday evening (weather permitting) while drivers use alternate routes.  FOX 56

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Back Mountain Chamber held its 2026 Networking and Business Expo at The Greens at Irem Clubhouse in Dallas. Local businesses and community groups connected, shared ideas on topics like artificial intelligence and financial services, and visited over 50 booths (a glimpse into the region's 500 local businesses).  FOX 56
  • FOX56 launched a new weekly show called Data Center Divide to examine the region's growing data center projects and their impact on local zoning, energy, and water issues — new episodes air every Thursday on FOX56 WOLF-TV's YouTube channel.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Double (R) Twirlettes held a packed recital at Mid Valley Secondary Center on Wednesday night, presenting America 250, a patriotic baton twirling performance honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial milestone. The group will represent Pennsylvania at the Salute to Independence Parade on July 3.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wayne County Housing Authority staff now assist residents at the Pike County Human Services Office on Bennet Street in Milford every other Thursday—officials say the partnership will ease a 45-50 minute trip to Waymart and streamline the Housing Choice Voucher Program application process.  WNEP

  • FOX56’s Bob Ide hosted a WVIA podcast today discussing track and field as Mid Valley freshman Olivia Thomas set a record in the 100m hurdles one day after winning the 300m race at the District II meet. The show featured Scranton’s Jake McCarthy with the Rockies + Penguins finals updates.  WVIA
