  • The Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Company will host a four-day Memorial Day carnival and parade in Luzerne County beginning Friday, May 23 that features a fireman’s parade on Monday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Scranton Public Library will hold its annual Swingin’ on Vine fundraiser Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.—DCNR is set to host a free Yoga on the Beach session Sunday at 9 a.m. at Lake Jean Beach.  WVIA

  • Scranton Police are searching for missing 24-year-old Chrisine Krenitsky who was last seen Saturday on the 1200 block of Providence Road with blue braids—and anyone with information is urged to contact police.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Josh Shapiro visited Isaac Tripp Elementary School in Scranton today to promote his budget plan—boosting K-12 funding statewide and adding a 40% funding increase to the local school district. School officials say the extra money has improved test scores and programs while the proposal awaits approval from state lawmakers.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthcare activists warned that proposed Medicaid cuts may force Scranton hospitals like Moses Taylor to face extra costs and even risk closure, as the changes could reduce coverage for over 185,000 Pennsylvanians and strain providers with an estimated $606 million increase in uncompensated care. They stressed that lawmakers must weigh these cuts against the needs of the more than 3.1 million Medicaid beneficiaries in the state.  WVIA
