  • FOX56 spotlights Luke, a 6-month-old, 16-pound dog from Griffin Pond Animal Shelter looking for a forever home. Shelter staff report he is striking but shy until he learns to trust, and applications are being accepted today.  FOX 56
  • FOX56's weekly Pet Pals feature spotlights Chiquita, a 4-year-old spayed female dog from Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue, who is seeking a forever home. Interested adopters can apply with the shelter.  FOX 56
  • Rescue workers from Laura's Hope Rescue in Hop Bottom report that Tucson, a six-year-old poodle mix rescued from a hoarding situation two months ago (by the shelter), is thriving in foster care; his four siblings are also available for adoption and learning to trust people.  WNEP

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Interstate 81 northbound (mile marker 140 near the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Beltway) was closed on May 22 because of a crash, and officials advise drivers to take alternate routes until a detour is set.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • During WWII, local Dorothy Hunt wrote a 110-foot letter filled with words and drawings for her husband Lester, creating a cherished family heirloom in Scranton — his sons now plan to preserve this historic treasure.  WNEP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, over 140 fourth graders from Waverly and South Abington Elementary took a historic steam train ride at Steamtown National Historic Site as part of the Heritage Express program (a hands-on look at local rail and coal history), including guided tours and a ride through the Lackawanna Valley.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • Age Friendly Lackawanna launched its Dementia Friendly Dining initiative at A Little Pizza Heaven in Scranton, Taylor Deli and Pasquale’s in Archbald to support customers with dementia and their caregivers. The program was announced yesterday to promote understanding and inclusivity in local dining establishments.  WVIA

  • FOX56 features Tiger (a 2-year-old neutered male) from Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue in its weekly Pet Pals series. Those interested in adopting may apply today.  FOX 56

  • FOX56’s Bob Ide is at the WVIA podcast studio with Roger DuPuis discussing two Yankees stars at the RailRiders, where Gerrit Cole is on rehab and prospect George Lombard Jr. is promoted from Double-A, while the upcoming PIAA track championships will feature local favorite Olivia Thomas as a top seed.  FOX 56
  • Fans filled PNC Field for Banana Ball on Friday night as lively music and player meet-and-greets energized the sold-out event. The games continue today at PNC Field (gates reopen at 5:30 p.m.) for more local baseball fun.  FOX 56
