EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators at a Luzerne County school use a Dungeons and Dragons club to boost student attendance as students work together to defend a castle. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania will soon study the impact of USAID cuts plus U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser defended proposed Medicaid cuts and tariffs during Tuesday's luncheon in Schuylkill County.  WVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Scranton City Hall's stained glass windows that are more than 100 years old are being restored by craftsman Ben Kasmark as part of a $4.8 million renovation funded by state and federal grants — Mayor Paige Cognetti's team started work last year. The council chamber windows will be re-installed in June to complete the project.  WVIA
  • Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy DeFoor warned municipalities today that if they do not make required pension contributions for government workers, the burden will fall on taxpayers. He noted a report found 25% of municipal pension plans are in distress—threatening the retirement benefits of first responders such as firefighters and EMTs.  FOX 56
  • The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts warned local residents about a text scam claiming to be from the PA Courts stating there is an outstanding traffic ticket to be paid via a fake URL—residents should not provide sensitive information and are advised to contact police or the Attorney General if they receive such messages.  PA Homepage

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Good Drop clinic in Avoca gives ketamine infusions to help people with hard-to-treat depression, chronic pain, and anxiety—offering an option when other medicines did not work. Run by two former ER nurses since 2023, the clinic follows strict DEA rules and insurance guidelines while working to lower the fear about using ketamine.  WVIA
