- ➤ Shoppers attended a disability resource fair at Viewmont Mall, hosted by Lackawanna County’s Disability Action Committee – booths with health care providers, mobility scooter vendors and local clubs helped inform people with disabilities about available support, according to committee chair Kieth Williams. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Community Foundation and Women in Philanthropy will host Women and Their Fight for the Vote on Monday, June 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Century Club (612 Jefferson Ave) to screen a documentary, hold a Q&A with filmmaker Amanda Owen, and display local historical features. - ➤ Waverly Small Works Gallery will host 'A Life in Art: Works by Robert Stark,' a commemorative exhibition celebrating the late artist’s influential career. - ➤ Union Pacific’s restored Big Boy No. 4014 — the world’s largest operating steam locomotive — will arrive on June 13 at Steamtown National Historic Site as FOX56 launches its Countdown to Big Boy series to share daily facts about the engine. FOX 56
- ➤ Clifford Baptist Church will mark its bicentennial birthday on Sunday, June 14 with a 10 a.m. service, followed by a welcome prayer, church history talk and an ice cream social at 519 Church Street. The Abington Journal
- ➤ The Lackawanna Historical Society is hosting free walking tours to explore Downtown Scranton’s architecture, including themed routes in the Gothic District and Courthouse Square. Tours begin on Saturday, June 6 (11 a.m.) with sessions on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and are limited to 10 participants. The Abington Journal
- ➤ U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers Chorus will perform a free concert Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at the Scranton Cultural Center at Masonic Temple, 420 N. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new study by the Delaware River Basin Commission shows PFAS contamination in water and wildlife in parts of Lackawanna County and nearby areas. Officials say monitoring will ramp up with a public webinar on June 15 & a new online mapping tool to help residents track the contamination. FOX 56
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PennDOT announced that lane restrictions will affect Interstate 380 between Exit 20 and Exit 13 from Monday, June 1 to Thursday, June 4 (from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily) as crews work on bridge repair, crack sealing and dozing in Wayne County. FOX 56
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Since January, The Wright Center’s mobile street medicine clinic has provided care for Scranton’s homeless at the Community Intervention Center on Monday and Friday mornings; Anthony Weekes and others received check-ups, vaccinations, and referrals (all without cost to patients). WVIA
