Good morning, Scranton.

Judges, staff, and supporters gathered at the Scranton Cultural Center to celebrate 25 years of the Lackawanna County Treatment Court program — which has helped over 1,000 people recover from nonviolent drug charges, with 35 recent graduates having their charges dismissed.

Local speaker Russell Preno and others stressed how the program offers hope and new opportunities for those overcoming addiction.

22-year-old Tara Glan of Scranton faces six charges of child rape and related crimes for allegedly assaulting minors during prayer groups at Ray of Hope church in Taylor—her preliminary arraignment is set for today.

The Scranton School District held its first Head Start preschool graduation at Charles Sumner Elementary on Tuesday — marking the program’s relaunch after it was cut in 2020.

If federal funding remains available, two more classrooms at McNichols Plaza and John Adams elementary schools will open in the fall — giving more four-year-olds a head start before kindergarten.
