COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 160 golfers played in the charity tournament led by NFL Hall of Famer Mike Munchak at the Country Club of Scranton on a chilly, rainy day to raise funds for the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties — NFL figures including Vic Fangio and Mark Glowinski joined the event. The tournament has raised over $1 million over the years and offers a $6,300 prize to encourage youth community service.  WNEP
  • Donald Long, who missed his original graduation by 73 years due to financial struggles and military service, finally earned his high school diploma at a ceremony hosted by the Mid Valley School District in Throop today—Lackawanna County Commissioner Chris Chermak proclaimed today Donald Long Day in his honor. He celebrated nearly 90 years of life and 73 years of education at the event.  WNEP

  • Scranton Police reported that 36-year-old Christopher Wasnetsky fatally shot his coworker Jeff Moeller at Lowe’s on Viewmont Drive on June 14 at 12:30 a.m.—he has been charged with first and third-degree murder following security footage and court documents.  PA Homepage

HEALTH NEWS

  • Team Eddie K will host Swinging for a Cause at Montage Mountain Waterpark on Saturday, June 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.—raising funds to support 20-year-old Eddie Kaufman who is fighting T-cell acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia—and the event will feature live bands, tournaments, raffles, and auctions for all ages.  FOX 56
