COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keystone Mission announced it will close its Innovation Centers in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton over the next four weeks due to a 42% drop in donations and rising staffing costs. The organization will downsize its team to about six and coordinate with local groups to rehouse those who rely on the shelters — ensuring continued support during the transition.  WVIA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded after a truck crashed into the front of the Penn East Federal Credit Union building (located along Davis Street in Scranton) Tuesday at 10 a.m.; officials have not confirmed any injuries as crews clear the wreck.  WNEP

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said 73-year-old Robert Nasternak admitted he shot at his neighbor’s house and car five times Monday morning in Laflin Borough, and officers found bullet holes in both the garage door and car as he faces charges for aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, and other related offenses.  PA Homepage
  • Police arrested a Lowe's employee who shot his coworker on Saturday morning after reports of the incident on Viewmont Drive in Scranton— the suspect, 36-year-old Christopher Wasnetsky of Dalton, confessed that months of harassment led him to use his handgun to fatally shoot Jeff Moeller, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.  WNEP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Donna King from Nesquehoning said she smelled burning rubber from the Panther Creek Electric Generating Facility—where waste coal and tires are burned for cryptocurrency mining—and she attended a Save Carbon meeting where neighbors shared worries about local air quality. Lawyers claim pollution spiked after Bitfarms took over the plant and aim to hold the owners accountable.  WVIA

  • Scranton Fire Department is offering screenings for early signs of esophageal cancer from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. through Thursday in honor of late Lt. Kelly Hopkins (who battled stage 4 cancer and passed away in March). Current firefighters and retirees are invited to participate.  FOX 56
