COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, Scranton community members gathered at Zillapalooza for live music and food to support Robert Melville (Bobzilla), a motorcyclist treated for stage three kidney cancer earlier this month. He will be in recovery for at least three months (musicians such as Wildcard Duo and Project 90's performed) as his treatment continues.  WNEP
  • The Jewish Discovery Center kicked off its 12th annual Jewish Food Festival at Nay Aug Park today—offering free admission for community members to sample classic Jewish dishes, listen to live music, and join family-friendly crafts and inflatables. The festival will continue tomorrow with a Children’s Fest that features ponies and a petting zoo.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • The West Pittston Historical Society held its 4th annual First to Fall event on Sunday to honor Benjamin and Stukley Harding—first casualties of the Harding massacre linked to the Battle of Wyoming—while historical reenactors shared personal accounts of the tragic events.   WNEP
  • Today, reenactors in West Pittston set up an encampment at Jenkins Harding Cemetery for the 4th annual 'First to Fall' event to honor those killed in the Harding Massacre — the West Pittston Historical Society leads the event with period costumes and storytelling that bring history to life.  FOX 56

SPORTS NEWS

  • Runners tested their strength on steep trails at Montage Mountain in Scranton during the first 5K race of the Black Diamond Running Series, where cash prizes ranged from $50 to $300 and Luke Pikulski won the male race. An 8K race is set for Sunday, July 27—promising another challenge for local competitors.  FOX 56
  • Scranton's Charlotte "Bear Jew" Jacobson, 32, will leave on Monday for the Roller Derby World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria with Jewish Roller Derby. She was promoted from alternate to the main roster+ which guarantees she will skate in at least one bout.  WVIA
