  • Gino, a 14-year-old terrier mix, is rebuilding strength after being rescued through a new program (which offers free veterinary care and pet transport for homebound seniors in NEPA) and will soon be available for adoption (as he gains the strength needed for a fresh start).  WNEP

CRIME NEWS

  • ICE arrested Nasario Damian Contreras, a 45-year-old co-owner of three local restaurants, outside Isabella’s Eatery in Jefferson Twp. last Tuesday at 10:20 a.m.—he is now held at Pike County Correctional Facility while his family works with a new lawyer to address his immigration status amid strong community support.  WVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today at St. Ann’s Basilica on St. Ann Street in West Scranton, worshippers gather for the 101st Solemn Novena to St. Ann — receiving car blessings from Rev. Michael Rowe — as they pray and light candles. This nine-day event ends on July 26 — a local tradition for over 100 years — and continues to draw many faithful residents.  WVIA

  • Scranton police confirmed an officer was seen sleeping in a marked patrol vehicle yesterday and are handling the matter with internal measures (after a preliminary review) to prevent future incidents (by improving accountability).  PA Homepage

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In North Scranton, Mayor Paige G. Cognetti awarded a $125,000 grant to the Scranton Lackawanna Resources Development Corporation to renovate a property at 2009 Edna Avenue into two three-bedroom housing units with updated heating, cooling, and appliances — the project will finish in about a year and a half.  FOX 56
