  • Meteorologist Joe Snedeker began day two of his charity bike ride along the Susquehanna from Riverside at Borough Park, riding through towns like Danville, Northumberland, and Sunbury before stopping at Selinsgrove Commons and finishing at the Montour-Delong Community Fair in Washingtonville. Today he will ride through the northern tier from Eagles Mere to Howard Elmer Park in Sayre - all to benefit St. Joseph's Center.  WNEP
  • Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre held a food sale on Monday that raised funds to cover hotel costs for the Wyoming Valley Challenger Team’s four‑day trip to Williamsport for a Little League World Series exhibition game in August — local residents turned out in strong numbers — and team officials say the sale is key to helping the kids reach their dream.  PA Homepage

CRIME NEWS

  • Scranton police confirmed that a video showed an officer sleeping in a patrol car while on duty — and they said they will change their policies to stop this from happening again.  WNEP
  • Scranton police arrested a 17-year-old boy on July 12 at 3:00 a.m. after he allegedly stabbed a 23-year-old man in the face near Mulberry Street and Kellum Court — the suspect now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and related offenses.  PA Homepage

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gary Williams has volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program for over a decade—he offers free rides to cancer patients in Luzerne County, Dunmore and Philadelphia while honoring his late wife. He hopes his service inspires more locals to join the effort to help those fighting cancer.  FOX 56
  • On July 14, West Nile virus was found in mosquitoes caught at Robinson Park and McDade Park in Scranton—local health officials advise residents to remove standing water and wear long sleeves to lower the risk. So far, no one has become sick from the virus.  FOX 56
