- ➤ Families gathered at Aylesworth Park this afternoon for a free Water Safety Series event hosted by Lackawanna County Parks and Recreation — the program taught paddleboarding, water rescue tips, and safe swimming practices. - ➤ Electric City Love Con will take place at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel on Saturday, Aug. 2 and will host over 100 romance authors, flash tattoos, vendors, and book signings for about 400 attendees. Organized by local writers Tara and George Conrad, VIP ticket holders enter at 10 a.m. with general admission starting after a 12:30 p.m. lunch break — the sold-out event highlights Scranton’s growing romance scene. - ➤ Over 200 residents filled the Gouldsboro Fire Department for a heated zoning board meeting in Clifton Township where locals raised concerns a 500-acre development could become a nuclear-powered data center even though no record shows this; board members noted property owners' influence (such as those represented by 1778 Ridge Pike LLC) and will decide on the application on August 21 (with a follow-up hearing set for September 9 if no agreement is reached). - ➤ Pennsylvania State Police released a report analyzing 433,599 trooper-initiated traffic stops in 2024 with speeding as the top cause and less than 4% resulting in arrests.
