  • The intergenerational pen pal program connected children from Bellevue Child Care Center with seniors from the Scranton Senior Community Center when they met Monday for bingo and pizza.   • Area law enforcement warned yesterday about a scam targeting older men that stole over $6 million — Lycoming County District Attorney Tom Marino detailed the scheme in a recent alert.  PA Homepage

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A workforce development program at Wilkes Barre Career & Technology Center, set up by the Food Dignity Movement, has given students hands-on training in warehouse management while working with local farmers and nonprofits to fight food insecurity in Plains Twp. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five assessment appeals boards began hearing appeals on about 4,200 new property values in Lackawanna County Monday—hearings that will continue through Halloween as counties and school districts prepare new tax rates. County officials will deliver final values by November 14 while additional formal appeals may be received before the deadline.  WVIA
  • State Sen. Rosemary Brown will host a Senate Policy Committee hearing on Monday, Aug. 11 at Valley View High School in Archbald to address community concerns over data centers and clarify government procedures & the hearing will run from 1 to 4 p.m. with residents encouraged to submit written questions ahead of time while it is live streamed.  WVIA

  • The Scranton Counseling Center will host its first Summer Splash for Mental Health event on August 14th from 6 to 9 p.m. at its Cherry Street location (featuring a summer barbecue, drinks, live music, games, and building tours) to offer community members a chance to focus on mental wellness.  WNEP
