  • Next Saturday, August 16th, the Outreach Center for Community Resources in Scranton will host a free Children's Career Fair for kids ages 2 to 12 with live music, about 40 vendors, and career information for parents; free parking is available (at Redner's Markets on 7th Avenue) along with complimentary bus rides.  WNEP

  • St. Joseph’s Melkite Greek-Catholic Church is hosting its annual Lebanese-American Food Fest today and Sunday on St. Francis Cabrini Avenue in West Scranton, where local families make traditional desserts with recipes passed down through generations—honoring the legacy of Lebanese immigrants. Kathie Abda Barrett and her relatives are working in a busy church kitchen to prepare pastries that continue this long-standing cultural tradition.  WVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Board members at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital voiced strong concerns over the potential sale to Tenor Health Foundation, which signed a letter of intent to buy Wilkes-Barre General, Moses Taylor, and Regional Hospital of Scranton—fearing that the new owner’s inexperience may divert profits away from their hospital.  WNEP
  • West Nile virus was found in four mosquito samples in Scranton on July 28 with no human infections reported—officials say residents should remove standing water and wear long sleeves when outside. A county report noted that 12 samples in total have tested positive for the virus this season.  FOX 56
