- ➤ Jim Mirabelli—known as NEPA Pizza Review—visited Pizza L’Oven in Exeter on August 10 and highlighted the quality of local pizza to help small businesses stay open. He began reviewing pizza in 2012 as a creative outlet from his finance work and now shares his views on social media. FOX 56
- ➤ On Sunday, over 250 cars were showcased at the Historic Moffat Estate in Covington Township and the fundraiser raised over $10,000 for the William R. Kramer Memorial Scholarship Fund — which will award $2,500 scholarships to four North Pocono seniors. The event also featured food — raffles — and music to honor the memory of a North Pocono High School graduate killed in a 1989 car crash. PA Homepage

- ➤ A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after a single-car crash in Hanover Township on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. on Loomis Park Road near Dundee Road — crews cleared the scene in about one hour. PA Homepage

- ➤ Gene Passarella, a decorated World War II veteran and longtime bandleader, was honored at a tribute concert Sunday at Nay Aug Park where over 100 relatives and friends gathered to celebrate his near-100 milestone—he will celebrate his birthday tomorrow. WVIA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PennDOT and Pennsylvania Courts have advised drivers to stop for school buses with flashing red lights and to slow to 15 mph in school zones while instructing parents and students to arrive early at bus stops (children should remain safe by not crossing behind a moving bus). The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced a School Bus Safety Grant Program in May to fund safety improvements using $1.2 million in grants (a $300 fine will contribute $25 to the program), urging all to follow the rules as the new school year approaches. - ➤ The state’s Department of Environmental Protection has found West Nile virus in 52 counties and 754 mosquito samples have tested positive, with two human cases confirmed — in Scranton, Rocco Genovese uses traps at Robinson Park to gather samples for testing. Officials urge residents to use repellent and remove standing water to reduce the risk of mosquito bites. WVIA
- ➤ Camp Healing Hearts has helped kids cope with loss through fun activities at Montage Mountain Resort Lodge since 2017. This year, the camp offers creative sessions such as painting and dancing (themed on Wicked) and provides a space for children aged 6 to 14 (who have lost a loved one) to learn healthy ways to handle grief.
