  • Four ambassadors are training this week for Scranton Tomorrow's Downtown Ambassador Program—designed to help keep downtown clean and vibrant. They will provide on-street cleaning, maintenance and hospitality Monday through Friday and will begin work on Tuesday.  WNEP

  • Less than 24 hours before La Festa Italiana starts, vendors in downtown Scranton are busy preparing for the free festival’s 49th year of Italian food and live entertainment. Tyler Connor from Da Vinci Pizza is getting supplies ready—such as cases of pepperoni, pounds of cheese, and pizza ovens—to serve an expected 120,000 guests.  PA Homepage

  • Labor Day weekend gas prices in Lackawanna County will be a five-year low — GasBuddy shows they dipped a cent lower than in 2021 — providing welcome relief for holiday drivers. INRIX warns that heavy traffic is expected on Saturday afternoon and early evening.  WNEP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lackawanna County will hold a special meeting today at 9 a.m. at the County Government Center to vote on placing Commissioner Matt McGloin's unexpired term on the November ballot— a plan prompted by his resignation six months ago amid court cases and internal party disputes. The board will also decide on whether to hold a special election for a clerk vacancy.  WVIA

  • Amy Pua, an Army veteran turned nurse, donated her kidney to her father after nearly a year of tests proved she was a match—coworkers at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton praised her courage.  WNEP
  • After a Wednesday shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic church that killed two children, mental health experts advised parents to speak simply with their kids about gun violence while keeping details to a minimum. Brooke Bifano from the Scranton Counseling Center and other professionals stressed using age-appropriate language—helping children understand that home remains safe and that parents should also care for themselves.  WVIA
