- ➤ On September 4 at 5:30 p.m., state police reported a rollover crash on the Casey Highway near the Meredith Street exit ramp that killed Carbondale driver Michael Propes after he lost control while passing other cars; he was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton—witnesses also said his white Pitbull puppy Storm was last seen on an embankment. - ➤ Brenda Sacco was selected as the new Lackawanna County Commissioner by common pleas court judges on Thursday to replace former commissioner Matt McGloin after a six-month search. The Luzerne County Fair is open through Sunday as the Safari Farm Petting Zoo offers local residents a chance to see kangaroos, capybaras, and otters. WVIA
- ➤ The Pennsylvania State Supreme Court granted an emergency application that halted the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed commissioner Brenda Sacco after Commissioner Bill Gaughan requested that no appointment take effect until all appeals are resolved—officials noted that the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas was directed to follow the ruling. A panel had earlier forwarded Sacco’s nomination following Matt McGloin's resignation in February. FOX 56
