- ➤ Today, Prospector's Pantry Raid kicks off in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties to fight food insecurity as a local radio host teams up with Gerrity's and Weinberg Food Bank to collect food, cash, and awareness for the area. The two-day drive, which collected about 4,600 pounds of food last year, will offer $10 pre-packed bags and accept non-perishable donations at designated locations — supporting local residents in need. - ➤ Scranton held its annual ceremony at McDade Park in front of the 9/11 Memorial—attended by police and fire members—to honor nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11 and 11 local residents, including a volunteer paramedic remembered for his 9/11-related cancer. Organizers said the event will continue each year to unite the community and keep the resolve to remember strong. WNEP

- ➤ Ryan Fitzgerald, a 1997 King’s College grad from Wilkes-Barre, died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and his remains were identified in August—bringing some closure to his family—and his memory is honored on campus with a dedicated conference room. WVIA
- ➤ On September 11, Luzerne County Community College held its 24th annual September 11 Remembrance Ceremony as students, veterans, first responders, and community members gathered under an American flag while bagpipes and a final alarm tribute honored the victims and heroes of that tragic day. The event featured a brick dedication along a Walk of Honor — established in 2002 to honor fallen New York City firefighter Michael Carlo—and reminded everyone to reflect on the sacrifices made. - ➤ Judges heard arguments Wednesday about whether voters should choose the replacement for former commissioner Matt McGloin in a special election scheduled for November 4 — Brenda Sacco said she will not run if the court orders it. WVIA
- ➤ State regulators approved a settlement that hikes UGI Utilities natural gas rates by 6.7% effective Oct. 28 so a typical customer using 72.9 hundred cubic feet of gas will pay $110.51 instead of $103.57. UGI now serves about 690,000 customers in 46 counties. WVIA
