Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 18th of September.
Good morning, Scranton.
🏘️ Community
The Lackawanna County Reentry Task Force held its second annual Second Chance Festival Thursday outside the county courthouse in downtown Scranton, offering returning citizens access to housing, jobs, healthcare, and other services.
Organizers stressed that the event aimed to ease reentry and rebuild lives (with firsthand volunteer success stories).
Officials brought the remains of Korean War serviceman Harry J.
Guinther (missing for over 70 years) back to Schuylkill County. The reinterment honors his service and ends a decades-long search in the local community.
🏛️ Government
A Penn State Board of Trustees committee recommended selling the Wilkes-Barre campus to HGC Development LLC for $5.25M, with plans to convert the site into a multi-use venue with an educational partnership with Misericordia University.
The Board will consider the proposal Friday as the campus remains open through spring.
🏥 Health
Allied Services introduced the Rise&Walk robotic rehabilitation system in Scranton today, giving patients with mobility challenges a new way to train longer and more independently.
This unveiling coincides with the 50th anniversary of National Rehabilitation Week, first established in Scranton in 1976.

Jersey Shore travels to Shamokin in a rematch of last year's District IV championship and will play today at 7 p.m. on MYTV, WQMY — previews also feature Penn State and the Notre Dame versus Michigan State matchup, the first game between them since 2017.
