- ➤ Frank's Place in Simpson is offering free meals to current and former police officers after a deadly shooting in York County killed three officers and injured two—owner Frank Cerminaro hopes the gesture supports law enforcement—and many officers and patrons have expressed their heartfelt thanks. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lackawanna County school districts are facing funding problems as the state budget remains overdue since July 1, leaving the Scranton School District without its expected $19 million and at risk of missing another $10—11 million if delays continue. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Scranton announced a partnership with DoorDash to support small business owners through the Accelerator for Local Businesses program—running from October through November and offering approved applicants a $5,000 marketing credit and technical training. - ➤ Two voters filed a county court challenge on September 18th to remove independent county commissioner candidate Ryan Runco from the November 4 ballot after they said his nomination papers had errors—such as unregistered and incomplete signatures. WVIA
- ➤ At a Wednesday meeting in Lackawanna County, commissioners clashed over the property tax reassessment—some wanted to slow the process so residents could better understand their taxes while others warned that delaying it would cost the county. The final decision will be made before the new budget is passed and the special election on November 4 may decide the missing commissioner spot. WNEP
