  • Anthony Stambone hosted the first annual Jessup Lonza Club competition at Station Park during a local block party, where 14 local makers entered their homemade lonza in a blind taste test—he said the event celebrated family tradition and aimed to keep the recipe alive for future generations.  FOX 56
  • A jazz celebration was held at Nay Aug Park as family, friends, and community members honored late mayor Jimmy Connors who served from 1990 to 2002—local groups rebranded the summer concert series and installed a commemorative bench in his honor. CULTURE NEWS

  • The first-ever Dih-Sain Teehar festival was held at Nay Aug Park on Saturday—featuring traditional music, dance, cultural performances, and Nepali cuisine. The event was organized by the Bhutanese Cultural Foundation and Scranton Association to unite local communities.  WNEP
  • Today the 9th Annual Welcoming Scranton event lit up our streets with tasty street corn, music, and dance as people celebrated America’s Welcoming Week. Community leaders said the event—focusing on inclusion and diversity—helped refugees and immigrants feel welcome.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PADOC announced that SCI Rockview in Centre County and Quehanna Boot Camp in Clearfield County will close over the next four months due to a declining prison population and the need to better align resources—staff at both facilities are guaranteed job transfers with unchanged roles while specialized programs will relocate to continue operating elsewhere.  FOX 56

  • On Saturday, runners in Scranton took part in the Color Me Pink 5K along Linden Street to support those battling cancer + Paint the Planet Pink hosted the race to unite the community in funding research and clinical trials.  WNEP

  • On Saturday, Division III college football games ended with Susquehanna losing 40 to 20 against John Hopkins, Wilkes falling 18 to 26 to Muhlenberg, and King's College winning 27 to 21 against FDU-Florham—final scores showed competitive local play.  WNEP
