  • The Hoedown of Hope fundraiser will be held Sunday, October 5th from 1 to 6 pm at the Holiday Inn of Dunmore and will feature live music, line dancing, pony rides, face painting, and hobby horse races with Newswatch 16’s Jeremy Lewan and Jack Culkin—benefiting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and honoring the memory of Melvin White.  WNEP
  • Crazy Paws, a beloved cat at St. Cats & Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo in Scranton, passed away over the weekend—he was known for his sassy personality and striking tuxedo colors and had long battled arthritis in his back legs and spine.  WNEP

CRIME NEWS

  • The former Fairview Township tax collector Karen McGinnis (46) pleaded guilty to embezzling over $400,000 in property taxes meant for Fairview Township, Luzerne County, and the Crestwood School District and agreed to repay the funds while refraining from seeking public office for at least three years.  FOX 56

  • Machine Gun Kelly will bring The Lost Americana Tour with Wiz Khalifa — special guest De’Wayne — to The Pavilion at Montage Mountain in Scranton on Friday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. General public ticket sales will begin Thursday, September 25 at 12:00 p.m.  PA Homepage

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Earth Conservancy is asking artists to design a native seed packet for use at conferences and educational events—aimed at helping grow local plants and restore old coal lands. The art must show mining history and nature, and submissions are due by Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. with a winner announced in December.  WVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials warn residents that fraudulent texts claiming to be from the Department of Revenue are circulating to steal personal details — they advise not to click any links and to report suspicious messages immediately.  PA Homepage
  • The Federal Department of Agriculture announced it will end household food security surveys as critics, including Centre County YMCA anti-hunger director Mel Curtis, question the timing given rising hunger and state budget delays that may affect food supplies—sparking concerns among local groups.  FOX 56
  • Voters in Scranton will take part in the Pennsylvania Municipal Election on November 4 as polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.—registration ends on October 20 and mail-in ballot requests must be made by October 28.  WNEP
