COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Scott Township gathered at Lakeland High School Saturday to support two troopers injured in an ambush last month. Motorcyclists and families joined the rally—raising funds through raffles, food vendors and car shows to aid the troopers and their families.  PA Homepage
  • After Troopers Jenkins and Perechinsky recovered from being shot in an ambush in August, the community held a fundraiser—featuring vendors, a car and bike show, and raffle baskets—to help cover their expenses while the troopers remain on leave.  FOX 56
  • Tara Yamelski brought a Wind Phone to the Judith and David Rimple loop trail near Geisinger Dallas Medical Clinic so trail-goers can call and remember lost loved ones. The purple phone box was dedicated on September 20 and has already received messages of thanks and grief — a sign that the project may inspire similar healing efforts in other areas.  PA Homepage
  • St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish on Prospect Avenue in Scranton hosted its food festival and rummage sale on Saturday and is holding it today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—families can enjoy empanadas, tamales, and tacos before browsing furniture, housewares, and artwork.  WNEP

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Jermyn Historical Society's new museum opened on Saturday in Lackawanna County and now shows local antiques and relics inside the restored old church along Madison Avenue—its refurbished features include the original ceiling and updated doors and windows. President Bruce Smallacombe said the work took many hours, and the museum will be open afternoons and all day on Saturdays.  WNEP
  • The Pocono Mountain Street Rods Association celebrated its 50th anniversary with a classic car cruise at Viewmont Mall in Dickson City on Friday night. Later this year, more than a dozen members will show their cars at the Hershey Antique Auto Museum—an event that highlights decades of auto history and a love for unique rides.  WNEP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, over 150 community members joined the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association's 33rd annual walkathon in Forty Fort and paid a fee to support early childhood programs and therapies as demand for services grew—this event follows a centennial fundraising campaign that raised over $3 million last year.  PA Homepage

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wyoming Valley Children’s Association held a ribbon-cutting on Saturday for its new occupational and physical therapy building in Forty Fort—built to serve children up to age nine with outpatient speech, occupational, and physical therapy. The association said the new facility will help triple its student population as part of its centennial campaign expansion.  PA Homepage

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fighter’s Heaven in Deer Lake held a tribute event for the 50th anniversary of the Thrilla in Manilla by uniting the Ali and Fraizer families with personal stories and a screening of the historic bout. Local and international fans attended the six-hour event—featuring a Q&A and meet and greet—to honor the legacy of the fight.  WNEP
