COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fork Over Love Restaurant Week begins today with 56 restaurants in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties showcasing signature dishes and donating a portion of proceeds to support the fundraiser until October 5. Since 2021 the event has given over 97,000 meals to local communities and offers raffle tickets for a chance to win 60 gift certificates.  WNEP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Scranton Rotary Club donated over 150 translator pens to the Scranton School District on Tuesday to help close language barriers for students and reduce learning gaps—each pen costing $195 and programmed with over 50 languages to support teachers and students in classrooms where more than 40 languages are spoken.  PA Homepage
  • Pennsylvania has launched an online toolkit to help students, parents, and teachers check if news is true and find reliable sources. Gov. Josh Shapiro said the new system adds a fourth R—Real—to the traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic so users can better spot false information.  PA Homepage

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday evening, Clifton Township’s zoning board delayed a vote on a data center ordinance after a three-hour hearing—experts from developer 1778 Rich Pike LLC testified and local residents raised concerns about noise, electricity, water sourcing, and environmental risks—before the board adjourned without a decision. Additional meetings are scheduled for Oct. 29 and Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. to consider further witness testimony.  FOX 56
  • PennDOT is asking residents for feedback on its construction and maintenance services through an online 22-question survey open until October 21—participants share how they get road information and report concerns about repair work. Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll said the responses will help guide future repairs on over 2,600 miles of road and more than 230 bridges—officials hope the survey leads to improved services.  WNEP

  • 28/22 Sports Night will cover NFL Week 4 games including an Eagles-Bucs classic and an Irish showdown as well as Week 6 high school football results—one Top 10 team fell while four teams remained undefeated—and the show is hosted by Nick Zelaya, Alaina Losito, and Ricky Turner and airs Monday-Friday from 8-9 p.m.  PA Homepage
