COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Roba Family Farms' Pumpkin Harvest Festival is ongoing at the family-owned farm in South Abington Township—featuring a glowing pumpkin trail, the new Lazy Pumpkin Patio with live music, lawn games, fire pits, and the Pumpkin Pop-Up with photo ops. The festival runs from Wednesday through Sunday through November 2nd.  WNEP

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a house fire on Laurel Street in Pittston Township early Thursday morning—working around a faulty hydrant and a water main break that forced them to stretch 2,000 feet of hose to a working supply—and no one was injured as investigators review the cause.  FOX 56

CULTURE NEWS

  • River Grille in Wilkes-Barre is hosting its second annual Spookeasy pop-up bar that turns the restaurant into a wizarding world for a 90-minute table experience with themed cocktails and festive appetizers—reservations are recommended and the admission fee is five dollars. The event runs every Thursday through Sunday until November 1.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College seniors Zayury Ponce and Daylene Marin Garzon lead the Association of Latin American Students at the University of Scranton to boost Latin American culture on campus—growing their meetings from about 40 to around 60 members and hosting events like sporting games and El Carnaval to help students feel at home. The group continues to promote cultural awareness and a sense of belonging among its members.  WNEP
  • On Thursday, Penn State Scranton’s library hosted a read out for Banned Books Week—students and faculty read excerpts from banned books to support free access to literature. The event highlighted the value of intellectual freedom and the right to explore diverse ideas.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • About 43,000 federal workers, including several in Scranton, have been furloughed in Pennsylvania since the shutdown began on Oct. 1 due to a failure to pass a funding bill, and many households and local businesses are struggling with delayed paychecks that force some to dip into savings—banks and nonprofits are stepping in to offer emergency relief. Federal contractors now face project delays as financial uncertainty continues to affect the region.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross asks new donors in Scranton to visit donation centers to help ease a nationwide blood shortage as donations take about 15 minutes with proper fluid and meal preparation; donors sign in, use the app to fill out a Rapid Pass—then get checked for eligibility before giving a blood sample in a private area.  FOX 56

  • 28/22 Sports Night will air Monday-Friday from 8-9 p.m. as host Nick Zelaya—along with co-hosts Alaina Losito and Ricky Turner—presents updates on the Steelers vs Browns game, playoff baseball series and Nittany Lions with guests such as The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo and Allie Berube.  PA Homepage
